Germany National Football Team Profile

Profile of the Germany national football team history top scores most caps players most appearances, DFB Deutscher Fussball-Bund is the Germany football association was founded on 1900 and represents governing body for football in Germany for international competition and is controlled by DFB. Became a member of UEFA Affiliation in 1954 and FIFA Affiliation in 1904.

After the Second World War, Germany was banned from competition in most sports until about 1950, with none of the three new German states, West Germany, East Germany and Saarland, entering the 1950 World Cup qualifiers, since the DFB was only reinstated as full FIFA member after this World Cup. From 1950 to 1990, it was essentially the team of West Germany, as the DFB is based in Frankfurt, located in the former West Germany. Under Allied occupation and division, two other separate national teams were also recognized by FIFA, the Saarland team (1950–1956) and the East German team (1952–1990). Both have been absorbed along with their records by the current national team.

The Federal League or Bundesliga, German football's highest club category, was founded in 1963, heralding the introduction of professionalism. The Bundesliga has since become a top brand. In 2000 a league association (Deutsche Fussball-Liga or DFL) was established, meaning that, for the first time in 100 years of DFB history, professional football had its own independent organisational structure under the DFB umbrella. This move helped preserve the unity of the German game, as decisions on all matters, national or international, continued to be taken jointly. The link between professional and amateur football was also consolidated.
