Profile of the Lithuania national football team history LFF Lietuvos Futbolo Federacija is the Lithuanian Football Federation was founded on 1922 and represents governing body for Lithuania association football in a international competition and is controlled by LFF. Became a member of UEFA Affiliation in 1992 and FIFA Affiliation in 1923.
The country became independent in 1918, was merged of the USSR in 1940, before regaining independence in 1990. In 1923 the Lithuanian Sports League was admitted to FIFA. In the same year (1923) Lithuania played their first international as an independent state, also in Kaunas, losing 5-0 to Estonia. In 1924 when the Lithuanian Football League (LFL) was founded and the national team participated in the Paris Olympics.

The country regained its independence in 1990 and played their first match as a new nation against Georgia in a 2-2 draw match in Tbilisi on 27 May 1990. 15,030 capacity Zalgiris Stadium became home of the national football team. Played in 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifying, winning their first points with a 2-2 draw against Northern Ireland in Belfast on 28 April 1992. The first victory came against Latvia in Riga on 12 August 1992.
