The FIFA Confederations Cup history (Indonesian: sejarah piala konfederasi cup) is an association football tournament for national football teams. It is contested by the holders of each of the six FIFA confederation championships (AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, UEFA). In 1992, the winners were Argentina, then reigning South American champions. They came with a starstudded team including Batistuta, Redondo, Caniggia and Simeone and carried off the trophy after defeating the host country, despite their tremendous support from the home fans, in the final. The other two teams taking part on that occasion were the USA and Côte d’Ivoire.

in 1995 competition and this time it was Denmark who took the honours, with strong performances from the Laudrup brothers earning them victory over Argentina. Mexico and Nigeria made it to the semi-finals, while Japan and the host country were eliminated after losing both of their group matches.

In 1997, named it the FIFA Confederations Cup and staged the competition every two years. Brazil promptly stamped their authority on the competition to win the striking new gold trophy. One of the main purposes of the tournament was clearly demonstrated when Australia made it to the final to take on the then world champions.

In 1999, the Mexicans richly deserved to win the cup as one of two teams unbeaten in the group stage to make it to the final. The home ”Azteca” factor – Mexico had not been beaten there for 18 years – could not be ignored. Brazil lived up to expectations as their talent factory continued to produce outstanding players.

In 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup was the fifth FIFA Confederations Cup and the third to be organised by FIFA. The tournament was played in May and June 2001 and co-hosted by South Korea and Japan, who were also hosts for the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals. It was won by France, beating hosts Japan 1–0, with a goal from Patrick Vieira.

In 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup football tournament was the sixth FIFA Confederations Cup, held in France in June 2003. France retained the title they had won in 2001, but the tournament was overshadowed by the death of Cameroon player Marc-Vivien Foe, who died of heart failure in his side's semi-final against Colombia. Foe's death united the France and Cameroon teams in the final match, which was played even though team players from both sides had explicitly stated that the match should not be played out of respect for Foe. France went on to win the trophy with a golden goal from Thierry Henry.

In 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup football tournament was the seventh FIFA Confederations Cup. Since 2005, it has been held every four years, in the year prior to each World Cup in the host country of the forthcoming World Cup. It was held in Germany between 15 June and 29 June 2005. The tournament was won by 2002 FIFA World Cup winners Brazil, who defeated Argentina 4–1 in the final Waldstadion in Frankfurt. The final was a rematch of the Copa America final also won by Brazil. It was Brazil's second win at the Confederations Cup.

In 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup was the eighth Confederations Cup, and was held in South Africa from 14 June to 28 June 2009 as a prelude to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The draw was held on 22 November 2008 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The opening match was played at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg. The tournament was won by Brazil, who retained the trophy they won in 2005 by defeating the United States 3–2 in the final.

In 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, the ninth FIFA Confederations Cup, is an international association football tournament that will be held in Brazil in 2013, as a prelude to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The tournament is expected to be held from 15 to 30 June 2013.
